Finding the lug width

Lug width is the key measurement when choosing a strap. You can measure it in a minute – with a ruler or calliper.

  1. Step 1: Place the watch face down on a soft cloth.
  2. Step 2: Measure the inside distance between the two lugs in millimetres – where the spring bar sits.
  3. Step 3: Round the result to the nearest whole millimetre: that is your strap width (e.g. 20 mm).
  4. Step 4: Choose a spring bar of the same size and the right diameter.

Tip Odd widths such as 19 or 21 mm are common with some brands. Measure twice – a strap that is too narrow looks lost, one that is too wide will not fit.
