Shortening a metal bracelet

A metal bracelet is sized by removing individual links. With a holder and pin punch you can do it at home.

  1. Step 1: Try it on and count how many links are too many – remove them as evenly as possible from both sides of the clasp.
  2. Step 2: Look for the arrows on the inside of the links: they show the direction in which the pin is pushed out.
  3. Step 3: Place the bracelet in the holder, set a pin punch of the right diameter and push the pin out in the direction of the arrow.
  4. Step 4: Remove the links, close the bracelet and reinsert the pin against the arrow – with light taps of the hammer.

Tip For link bracelets up to 22 mm wide, a pin pusher such as the STB-30 is also handy. Keep the removed links in case you want to lengthen the bracelet later.
